"And who shall stand when He appeareth?"
Whose life has such strength
as not to crumble in the final light?
Who spoke such truth
as not to be struck silent at that sight?
Who has in him so little sin
as not to be plucked up by fear?
Who has such joy of life
not to be gladdened at his rightful end?
Who was so righteous
not to send the compass of hell
shooting a million ways at once?
And who so lost
as not to find himself
in the lost arms of his innocence again,
Risen as first he rose, in light,
Fragrant and free from the flames?
